Round Rock-based Infinitum has been recognized as one of the most innovativecompanies in the world.

The creator of smaller, more efficient motors came in at No. 19 on FastCompany magazine’s latest list of the world’s 50 most innovative companies, among the ranks of Waymo, Nvidia and YouTube.

Infinitum makes air-core motors, which use less energy and are smaller andlighter than traditional motors. In addition to manufacturing and industrialapplications, the company’s innovations are also being used in data centers, including energy-hungry AI systems.

The company recently doubled its motor deployments for cooling equipment in large AI data centers, which officials said in an announcement consistently reduced energy by upwards of 20%.

Infinitum has been on a tear in recent years.

In 2024, it raised $220 million in a series E funding round and landed a grant from the Department of Energy, bringing its overall funding to about $458million since its founding in 2016, according to Crunchbase. It also has received initial approval for a federal loan to open a factory in Rockdale.

In 2023, it was a Blazer winner in Austin Inno’s Fire Awards.

“Motors are the unseen workhorses of our economy, consuming half of the electricity produced in the US today,” said Ben Schuler, Infinitum’s founder and CEO, in a statement. “Infinitum is helping the world’s most power-intensive facilities, including mission critical data centers, consume energy more responsibly, while improving their bottom lines in an environment where every watt counts.”

Other local businesses that didn’t make the top 50 list but were recognized in breakout sector rankings include AI company Anaconda Inc., hiring platform Indeed Inc., Curative Health Insurance Co. and cooler maker Yeti Holdings Inc.
